George Coon, 22, a 1973 graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, died Nov. 24 in an auto accident near Rock Island, Ill.
Mr. Coon was a 1977 graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. where he had lettered in track and football and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology.
Commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve upon graudation from college, he was scheduled to report to active duty at Mather Air Force Base in California on Dec. 8.
At the time of his death Mr. Coon was living with his parents, Charles and Merriel Coon, at the home in Taylor Ridge, III. The senior Mr. Coon was a former official of the Washington Board of Trade and Mrs. Coon was a speech therapist here for a number of years.
Born in Cherokee, Iowa, Mr. Coon had lived in Bethesda most of his life.
Besides his parents, Mr. Coon is survived by a brother, Curtis C., of Baltimore; two sisters Linda Coon, of Springfield, III., and Kristin Coon, of Meadville, Pa.; grandparents, Roy and Florence Curtis, of Reynolds, III., and Hester Coon, of Zephyrhills, Fla.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of contributions to Allegheny College (c/o Richard Maddy) in memory of George Coon.
