Local government offices in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia will be closed Monday, Dec. 26, as will most banks, supermarkets and liquor stores.
Bus service on Monday will run on a Sunday schedule. There will be no Metro rail service on Monday. Metro information phones will be closed on Sunday only.
Trash collection scheduled on Mondays will be made on Tuesday, Dec. 27 in most jurisdictions.
Weekend traffic regulations will be in effect in the District of Columbia the day after Christmas.
Local government offices will be open regular hours today, except in Fairfax County, which will close at noon, and in Alexandria, which will close at 3 p.m.
Most major supermarkets in the metropolitan area will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed Sunday and Monday. The Grand Union chain will be open Monday.
Virtually all banks in the metropolitan area will be closed on Monday. Most banks in Virginia will also be closed Saturday, Dec. 24. Some banks in the District and in Maryland will be open regular hours that day.
Virginia ABC stores will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed Sunday and Monday. In Montgomery County liquor stores will be open until 5 p.m. Christmas Eve and wil be closed Sunday and Monday. In the District and Prince Georges County some liquor stores will be open Saturday and Monday.
The American Automobile Association has issued a warning to travelers that nearly two-thirds of the gasoline staions in the continental United States will be closed Christmas day, although nearly all stations will be open Saturday and Monday.
