Extended Area Forecast for Monday through Wednesday: Rain on Monday, fair through the remainder of the period. Highs will be from the 30s to the low 40s, lows from the 20s to the low 30s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 43 and a low of 28.

West Virginia: Today - Cloudy, highs from the upper 40s to the mid 50s, lows from the low 30s to near 40. There will be rain by tonight. Sunday - Rain, highs in the 40s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Snow will fall in a broad band from the Great Lakes westward across the Dakotas and Nebraska into Montana and Wyoming. Showers are expected over portions of the Ohio Valley and western Oregon. It will be mostly cloudy over the Southwest, while skies will be fair elsewhere. It will be very cold over the upper Mississippi Valley, the northern Plains and the northern Rockies. Temperatures will be seasonable over the Northeast westward across the middle sections of the country to the far southwest. It will be mild from Texas across the lower Mississippi Valley eastward to the Atlantic as far north as the middle Atlantic states.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 10 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should be near 5.4 feet today.
