Extended Area Forecast for Thursday through Saturday: Partly cloudy through the period. Highs will be from the 20s in the mountains, to the 40s elsewhere on Thursday and Friday and near 50 on Satuday. Lows will range from the teens on Thursday to the 30s by Saturday. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 43 and a low 28.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will fall from the southern and central Pacific Coast eastward into the Plateau. Scattered snow will develop in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Occasional snow and flurries are also expected from the Great Lakes and upper Ohio Valley to the middle Atlantic Coast. Skies will be mainly cloudy over the western third of the nation and from parts of the Great Lakes to the middle Atlantic Coast. Elsewhere, mostly sunny skies are forecast. Cold temperatures will prevail in most section.

The Council of Goverments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reaching in the Washington area during the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., period was 6 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicte good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should be near 4.8 feet today.
