West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, highs from the upper teens to near 30, lows from near 10 to near 20. Thursday - Partly cloudy, highs mid 20s to the low 30s.

Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday: Fair on Friday, cloudy with a chance of rain or snow over the weekend. Highs will range from the 30s to the low 40s on Friday, to from the 40s to the low 50s by the weekend. Lows will be from the 20s to the low 30s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Snow will fall across the Great Lakes while rain, with snow at higher elevations, will fall across the Southwest. Rain is expected over most of southern and northern Texas. Skies will be cloudy from the continental divide westward to the Pacific, then across the Great Lakes and into the eastern portion of the upper Mississippi Valley and across the eastern portions of the southern Plains. Skies will be fair to mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures will be seasonably cold across most of the nation, but very cold in the east central states, where readings will be from 15 to 20 degrees below normal.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 16 for the pollutant, sulfur dioxide. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100, the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urced to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River staoe at Little Falls should be near 4.6 feet today.
