Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Snow flurries with visibility of less than 3 miles today, over 5 miles tonight. Wind will be from the northwest at up to 40 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be near 3 feet.

Extended Area Forecast for Wednesday through Friday: Fair on Wednesday, rain or snow by Friday. Highs will range from near 30 to the 40s, lows from near zero to near 30. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 43 and a low of 28.

West Virginia: Today - Light snow, highs in the 20s. lows from near 8 below zero to near 5 above zero. Tuesday - Light snow, highs from near 5 to the teens.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Rain will fall in New England and northeastern New York, with snow over western portions. Scattered showers will slowly dissipate from southeastern New York through Virginia. Snow will cover the Great Lakes, and flurries will cover the Appalachians into northwestern Georgia. Rain, with snow over higher mountains, will reach from Washington through northern California. Rain will scatter over Idaho and Northern sections at Utah and Nevada, while snow flurries will fall over Montana. Wyoming and southwestern South Dakota. Elsewhere, fair or sunny skies will prevail. If will be mild from New England through extreme Pennsylvania, as well as in Arizona, southern California and the Pacific Northwest. The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area curing the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. period was 12 for the pollutant, sulfure dioxide. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.
