Extended Area Outlook for Saturday through Monday - Precipitation early Saturday and again likely in the form of rain or snow on Monday. Sunday will be partly cloudy. Highs will average from the upper 20s to the 30s, lows in the 20s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 44 and a low of 28.

West Virginia: Today - Increasing cloudiness with a chance of snow in the north and rain in the south, high in the 30s, low in the mid 20s to low 30s. Friday - Rain, high in the 30s.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Mixed rain, sleet or freezing rain. Winds will be from the northeast at up to 12 knots. Visibility will be better than 5 miles diminishing to less than 1 mile in precipitation. Waves will average less than 2 feet.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Snow will spread from Oklahoma across the middle Mississippi Valley, Arkansas, Tennessee, and portions of the Ohio Valley and the Appalachians. Rain and thundershowers will occur along the Gulf and south Atlantic Coast states. Scattered showers, with snow in the higher elevations, will continue over most of the Pacific Coast and Plateau regions and the northern Rockies. Other areas can expect clear or partly cloudy skies. Colder temperatures will invade most of the Great Plains and southern Rockies. It will remain cold over the eastern third of the nation except for the extreme southeast. The northern and central Rockies will also be cold. West of the Rockies seasonaby cool weather will prevail.

The Council of Governments Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 15 for the pollutant, sulfur dioxide. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 4.2 feet today.
