Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Rain with visibility of less than 3 miles. Wind will be from the northeast at from 8 to 18 knots this morning, shifting to from the northwest this afternoon. Waves in unprotected waters will be from 2 to 3 feet.

Extended Area Forescast for Sunday through Tuesday: Chance of rain or snow on Suday and Monday, partly cloudy on Tuesday. Highs will be in the 30s, lows from the teens to the 20s.Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 44 and a low of 28.

West Virginia: Today - Snow, highs from the mid 20s to the mid 30s, lows from the teens to the 20s. Saturday - Snow flurries, highs from the upper teens to the 20s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Snow will fall over much of the Ohio Valley, the lower Great Lakes, the Appalachians and New England. Rain will fall from the middle Atlantic states to the Carolians. Some showers may linger in southern Florida, while snow is expected over most of the Rocky Mountain and the Plateau. There will be a few showers along the northern Pacific Coast. Most of the remainder of the country will have sunny skies. Temperatures will be very cold over most of the nation east of the Rockies, except in the middle Atlantic states, where near normal readings are forecast. Seasonably cold temperatures are expected in the West.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 15 for the pollutant, sulfur dioxide. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.
