The Nation Yesterday: Snow in the Southwest and the North, with freezing rain and some sleet and snow in the South fell in Texas. Icy weather covered all of southeastern Texas, where a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow also reached into central Louisiana. In the northeastern states light snow flurries continued from northern New England, across upper New York state, the upper Ohio Valley and the central Appalachians. The Pacific northwest also had precipitation, while a cold front moving eastward, brought scattered rain that reached into extreme northern California. Colder air was gradually moving into the northeast, where afternoon temperatures were mostly in the teens and 20s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - A few snow flurries will be seen near the Great Lakes in upper New York state. Rain and snow will end over southern Texas, and there is a chance of some snow in the northern portions of Louisiana and Mississippi, and rain in the southern sections that will reach across Georgia. Scattered rain will dampen the Pacific northwest and be mixed with snow over Idaho, Montana, northern Nevada, western Utah and southwestern Wyoming. It will be very cold from eastern and northern Texas across the lower Mississippi Valley through the Carolinas and Georgia.It will be mild in western Montana and Utah with warming indicated over most of the Great Plains. Elsewhere seasonably cold temperatures will prevail.
