Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday - Fair Saturday with a chance of snow Sunday and Monday. Highs will average from the mid 20s to the mid 30s, low mostly in the teens. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 44 and a low of 27.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Chance of rain changing to snow flurries. Winds will shift to the west at 25 to 35 knots with gusts by nightfall. Tides will average about 2 feet above normal with some minor flooding possible at high tide. Visibility will be less than three miles in precipitation.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will fall over extreme southern Florida and east of the Appalachians from Virginia through eastern Pennsylvania and into New England. Snow will reach from the mid and upper Mississippi Valley across the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley over the Northern and central Appalachians. Showers will dampen portions of the Pacific Northwest changing to snow showers over the mountains and also from Idaho and Montana through northern Utah, the Central Rockies, the Nebraska Panhandle and western South Dakota. It will be very cold from the northern Plains over the mid Mississippi Valley and most of the Ohio Valley through Oklahoma and northern Arkansas and eastward over the south and central Appalachians, New York, New England and the area east of the Appalachians across Virginia will be mild. Elsewhere seasonable temperatures will prevail.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 13 for the pollutant, carbon monoxide. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the Index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.
