Extended Area Forecast for yesterday through Friday: Fair on Wednesday and Thursday, chance of snow on Friday. Highs will be from the mid 20s to the mid 30s, lows from near 10 to near 20. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 44 and a low of 27.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, highs from the teens to the mid 20s, lows in the teens. Tuesday - Snow, highs from the teens to the mid 20s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Snow flurries will extend from northern New England across the Great Lakes, the Chio Valley and the northern half of the Appalachain mountains. Light snow will reach from Montana across northern Wyoming South Dakota and the central Plains through the middle Mississippi Valley and northern Arkansas. Light rain will fall from the eastern half of Texas through Louisiana and southern Arkansas. Showers will appear over the northwest Pacific Coast. The rest of the nation will have partly cloudy or fair skies. It will be very cold from the northern Rockies and the northern Plains to the middle Mississippi and Ohio Valley eastward through Virginia and South Carolina. Cold weather will continue east of the Rockies. It will be mild over the southwestern deserts and extreme southern California. The remainder of the country will have seasonable temperatures.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. period was 20 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eve ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.
