The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain will cover most of Oregon and Washington State, with snow likely in some of the higer elevations and through Montana. Flurries are possible from eastern Idaho into Montana, and snow will also fall from the middle Mississippi Valley through Lake Michigan eastward to the Appalachian. Rain will extend from the eastern part of the southern plains into Florida and the Carolinas, with freezing precipitation likely in parts of the northern lower Mississipppi Valley. Most of the country will be cold, with very cold conditions prevailing through the northern half of the plains.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading tin the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 19 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index valves between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air qually will be good.
