Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday: Fair through the period except for a chance of flurries in the mountains on Saturday. Highs will be from the upper 30s to the mid 40s, lows in the 20s. Temperatures will be colder in the mountains. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 48 and a low of 30.

West Virginia: Today -- Cloudy, chance of flurries, highs in the 20s, lows from near 5 to the mid teens.Thursday -- cloudy, chance of flurries, highs from the mid 20s to the mid 30s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today -- There is a chance of rain in Washington and over western Oregon. Snow flurries will fall in upstate New York and the mountains of northern New England while there will be a chance of snow flurries across the Great Lakes and the central Aopalachians. Elsewhere, sunny or partly cloudy skies will prevail. A warming trend over the Great Plains and the Mississippi Valley will continue and it will be mild over the northern Rockies, southern and northern California and the southwestern Desserts. It will be colder over the southern Atlantic Coast. Except for continued cold weather over the northern and middle Atlantic Coast and the Ohio Valley, most of the nation will have near seasonal temperatures.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. [WORD ILLEGIBLE] was 33 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very [WORD ILLEGIBLE] and individuals with lung, [WORD ILLEGIBLE] and eve ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air [WORD ILLEGIBLE] will improve.
