Jewell W. Peeke, at 60, president of the General Conference Risk Management Service, the insurance company of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, died of cancer Tuesday at Washington Adventist Hospital.
Mr. Peeke had headed the organization, which has its headquarters in Takoma Park, since 1957. Before that job, he had been business manager and treasurer of Columbia Union College, which is operated by the church, from 1951 to 1957.
Mr. Peeke was a 1950 graduate of Columbia Union. He was born in Bluff Springs. Fla., and served in the Army in the Pacific in World War II before moving to this area.
In addition to his work, Mr. Peeke was active in the Montgomery County chapters of the Red Cross, the Community Chest and the United Way.
He was a charter member of the Langley Park Rotary Club and a past president of the Civitan Club of Silver Spring.
He is survived by his wife, Anne, of the home in Adelphi; a daughter, Julianne L. Melnick, of Silver Spring; a son, Victor J., of Highland, Md.; his mother, Louise Peeke, and a brother, William E., both of Linclon, Neb., and two grandchildren. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of contributions to the Voice of Prophecy, 6340 Eastern Ave. NW, Washington.
