Extended Area forecast for Monday through Wednesday - Fair and cold Monday and most of Tuesday with snow or rain expected late Tuesday or Wednesday. Highs will average in the 30s, lows in the 20s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of [WORD ILLEGIBLE] and a low of 31.

West Virginia: Today - Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow flurries, high near 40, lows in the teens and low 20s. Sunday - Partly cloudy, highs from the upper 20s to mid 30s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain will extend from northern California through Washington state into the northern half of the Plateau becoming snow from there into the northern half of the Plains. Flurries are likely over portions of South Dakota and Negraska. Snow will also extend from the Great Lakes region into New England. Much of the southern half of the nation will have sunny skies. Cold temperatures will cover most of Florida and the majority of the U.S. from Montana to Oklahoma and eastward to the Atlantic from North Carolina to New England. The remainder of the country can expect mid to cool conditions.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 39 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants.Index values between 25 when 49 indicate fair air quality.When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should rise to 3.8 feet today.
