The National Weather Forecast for today - Scattered shower will fall from New England across West Virginia and New Jersey through North Carolina.Snow flurries will cover the lower Great Lakes, and there will be occassional snow flurries from the northern Plains across the upper Great Lakes. There is a chance of thundershowers in central Florida. Fair or partly cloudy skies will be over the rest of the country. It will be cold over the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes, as well as over the northern Great Plains. Mid temperatures will prevail from New England through Virginia, over the southern Atlantic Coast and in California. The remainder of the country will have near seasonal temperatures.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 a.m. period was 19 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye aliments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.
