Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair weather will be southwesterly. Visibility of more than 5 miles. Wind will be from the southwest at 25 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be 3 feet.

Extended Area Outlook: For Sunday through Tuesday - Rain likely Sunday, ending early Monday followed by clearing skies Tuesday. Temperatures should range from Sundays's highs in 50s and lows in mid 30s to mid 40s to Monday's and Tuesday's highs in 60s and lows 40s. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 59 to 39.

West Virginia: Today and Saturday - Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in south through tonight and scattered through the state Saturday. Highs should be in low to mid 50s, lows in upper 20s to mid 30s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the central Gulf Coast States while rain will cover an area from the southern Appalachians through Tennessee an Kentucky into the south central Mississippi Valley. Rain showes will be scatterred over the northwestern quarter of the country and some light snow is possible in extreme northern New England. A few rain or snow showers will persist in the Rocky Mountain region. Temperatures will be mid over the southern Atlantic Coast states and over most of the nation from the Rockies to Pacific Coast. Elsewhere cool readings will prevail.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality index for yesterday showed the high reading the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 38 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forcasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should be near 6.6 feet today.
