Maryland and Virginia: Today - Sunny, but becoming considerably cloudy, high in the 50s, low in the 30s. Friday - Partly cloudy, highs will range from the 60s to the low 70s.

Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday - Partly cloudy and warm through the period. Highs will range from the 60s to mid 70s, low from the mid 40s to mid 50s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 62 and a low of 41.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Fair, but turning cloudy tonight. Winds will be from the northwest at 12 to 20 knots becoming northeast at 10 knots or less by tonight. Waves will average near 2 feet. Visibility will be 5 miles or more.

West Virginia: Today - Sunny, highs from the mid 50s to low 60s. Becoming partly cloudy tonight and Friday, low tonight from the low 30s to low 40s, high Friday near 70.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will be scattered along most of the Pacific Coast extending into parts of the northern Intermountain Region and the northern Rockies. There may also be a few rain showers in southern Florida and some rain or snowy showers in northern Michigan. Mostly sunny skies are expected elsewhere. Temperatures will be warmer from the northern and central portions of the Plains and Mississippi Valley into the western sections of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. Cooler weather is expected along the Atlantic Coast from New England to the Carolinas, and also from the northern Rockies to the Pacific Coast. The central and southern Rockies and the Gulf States will be mild.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 34 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
