Extended Area Forecast for Monday through Wednesday - increasing cloudiness Monday with a chance of rain Tuesday and Wednesday.Highs will average in the 60s, lows in the 40s. Normal Washington temperature for the period are a high of 63 and a low of 42. West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon or evening showers followed by partial clearing, highs from the upper 60s to the upper 70s, lows from the upper 20s to mid 40s. Sunday - Partly cloudy, highs from the mid 50s to mid 60s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will be scattered along the Rocky Mountains and the eastern portion of the intermountain region. Widely scattered showers and thundershowers can be expected in the upper Mississippi Valley and the western Great Lakes. Some rain will also fall in the northern Great Lakes region changing to snow in northern New England. Cooler temperatures will push into the Great Plains as far south as Kansas and Missouri while the East Coast will experience warmer temperatures. The remainder of the nation with have mild weather.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 22 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should decrease to near 6.0 feet today. Stages above 5 feet are considered hazardous for recreational purposes.
