Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday: rain is possible on Friday, fair on Saturday and on Sunday. Highs will be from the 60s to the 70s, lows from the 40s to the mid 50s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 64 and a low of 43.

West Virginia: Today - Sunny, highs from the mid 60s to the mid 70s, lows from the mid 30s to the mid 40s. Thursday - Sunny, high in the 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - widely scattered rain will reach from the Pacific North west across the intermountain region through western Wyoming and the Colorado Rockies. Snow will fall on the highest mountains. Widely scattered and thundershowers will extend from the northern half of Texas through Oklahoma northward into the Dakotas and western Missouri. Rain will fall on Iowa and Minnesota. There is a chance of showers in New England and New York. Elsewhere sunny or partly clouded skies will prevail. Most of the country from the Pacific through the Rockies and the Dakotas through the Great Lakes over northern New England will be seasonably cool. Elsewhere mild temperatures will prevail.

The Council of Government Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area, during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 35 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye aliments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
