The 24th annual reunion hike of the C&O Canal Association will be held Saturday, April 29, commemorating the hike led by Justice William O. Douglas in 1954 to save the canal from destruction for a highway. The public is invited to join the hike.

This year's 11-mile hiking route in the C&O Canal National Historical Park will follow the towpath from Paw Paw, W. Va., to Oldtown, Md. Participants will meet at the National Park Service Paw Paw camp area, directly off Rte. 51 along the canal just outside the town of Paw Paw.

At 10 a.m., the group will begin hiking up the towpath, stopping along the way for lunch at the Town Creek aqueduct. The lunch will cost $2.75 A $1 bus ride will be available at Oldtown to transport hikers back to the Paw Paw camp area, where a happy tour will begin at 5 p.m. on the banks of the Potomac. A country-style banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Paw Paw Fire Department. The price for dinner is $6.

The C&O Canal Association is a citizen's organization concerned with the conservation of the natural and historical environment of the C&O Canal and the Potomac River Basin.
