Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday - Cool with a chance of rain Sunday and Monday. Highs will range from the 50s to low 60s, lows from the 30s to low 40s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 70 and a low of 48.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain and snow showers are likely in the Northwest from northern California to the northern tip of Idaho. In the Northeast rain and showers are likely for the upper Ohio Valley, the eastern Great Lakes and the coastal states from Virginia northward. Scattered thunderstorms are likely across the southern end of Florida. Temperatures will remain cool for most of the nation with 80 degree readings expected for the southern portions of Florida. Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. For the Great Lakes and upper New England highs will only be in the 40s. With the exception of the rainy areas of the Northeast and Northwest skies will be mostly partly cloudy to fair.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 13 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.
