The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will extend from the northern half of the Mississippi Valley through eastern portions of the southern Plains, across the Missouri Valley, the northern Plains, the northern half of the Rockies and the Northwest through northern Washington. Temperatures will be mild over the upper Mississippi Valley as well as from Texas through the Gulf states to South Carolina and Florida. Elsewhere temperatures will remain unseasonably cool.

Extended Area Forecast for Sunday through Tuesday: Fair through the period except for a chance of rain on Monday. Highs will be from the low 60s to near 70, lows from the 40s to the low 50s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 72 and a low of 51.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 24 for the pollutant photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the Index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.
