Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday: Chance of rain on Friday, fair through the remainder of the period. Highs will be from the low 60s to near 70, lows from the lows 40s to near 50. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 74 and a low of 53.

West Virginia: Today - Sunny, highs from the upper 50s to the upper 60s, lows from the mid 30s to the mid 40s. Thursday - Increasingly cloudy, highs from the low 60s to the low 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will extend from Montana through Wyoming into northern Utah. Colorado and western South Dakota. Showers and thunderstorms will range across the southern half of the Plains through the lower Mississippi Valley to the southern Atlantic Coast. There is also a chance for widely scattered showers in parts of New England. Skies will be sunny to partly sunny over most of the remainder of the nation. Temperatures will be mild over much of western California, as well as from the Texas Gulf Coast to the southern Atlantic Coast. Mostly cool conditions will prevail elsewhere.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 29 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their air quality will improve.
