"How convienent is the F Street shopping area downtown for your shopping needs?" Staff writer Joann Stevens and photographer Michael Ford Parks went to ask shoppers their views. Gertrude Banison, 49, homemaker, resident at New Hampshire Avenue between Randolph and Taylor streets NW: "I do most of my shopping downtown. But I think there could be more stores. Mostly there's Hecht's and Woodie's. I would like a Lord and Taylor's." William Cavalcante, 70, retired government worker, resident of the 1700 block of Lamont Street NW: "It's pretty good. The clerks are courteous. The (bus) transporation down here is good. About everything you need they (the stores) have it. I think the hours are fairly decent, too. People don't like to stay out too late at night." Rosa Pendleton, 50, homemaker, resident of the 3500 block of 13th Street MW: "I like it. It's convenient. I'm able to come by bus. We don't have enough stores though. I would like to see more stores. Sometimes I don't find what I'm looking for and I have to go all the way to Maryland. What we have I think is good but I wish we had more." Ronnie Williams, 18, unemployed, resident of the 1000 block of Hamlin Street NE: "Everything is fine. I shop here often. It satisfies me." Edna Mae Finney, retired teacher, resident at Georgia Avenue and Water Street NW: "It certainly doesn't satisfy me. It's inconvenient and it has a good variety of stores, but I come down by bus. The buses run slower in the afternoon. So I have to try to come in the mornings." Millison Toye, 24, housewife, resident at 12th and Quincy streets NW: "It's convenient. I'd like to see more stores. More department storeslike a Woolco's or something like that. The buses run pretty frequently but it could be better." Renee Holloway, 25, sales representative, resident of the 4900 block of Sergeant Road NE: "I don't shop here. I don't like it. Parking is expensive and I don't like the quality of goods. Hecht's has really gone down. Woodie's is okay. I prefer suburban shopping. Down here you don't have the convenience of having everything inside. The traffic and parking are my main complaints."
