Extended Areas Forecast for Sunday through Tuesday - Variable cloudiness with a chance of showers Sunday and Monday. Fair Tuesday. Highs will be in the 70s, lows in the 50s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 76 and a low of 55.

West Virginia: Today - Variable cloudiness and warm, high near 80, low near 60. Saturday - Chance of showers, high near 80.

The National Weather Forecast for today - showers and thunderstorms will be numerous from the Great Lakes region across the middle Mississippi Valley to the Texas Gulf Coast. Scattered rain will extend into the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians. Areas of rain will also dampen northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Sunny skies will prevail over the Atlantic Coastal region, most of the plain, the Rockies and the Southwest. Temperatures will be mild to warm across the southern states and throughout the eastern third of the country. It will be cool from the northern plains to the northern Pacific Coast.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 45 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealty individuals with lung, heart and eye aliments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quantity will improve.
