Extended Area Forecast for Thursday through Saturday: Fair through the period. Highs will be from the low 70s to near 80s, lows from the 50s to the 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 77 and a low of 57.

West Virginia: Today - Cloudy, rain possible, highs from the low 50s to nea r 60, low in the 40s. Wednesday - Cloudy rain possible high from the low 50 to near 60. The National Weather forecast for today - Rain will fall from North Carolina through Maine and then westward in to the middle Ohio Valley and Lower Great Lakes. Some showers will fall in the middle and norther Rockies. Warm temperatures will range from Southern Florida westward along the Gulf coast, across Texas into southern Arizona and California and then northward in the narrow band across the eastern plains into the upper Mississppi Valley. Cool to mild temperatures will cover the rest of the nation. Outside areas of rain, skies will be mostly sunny.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 25 for the polutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicated that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should be near 10 feet today.
