Extended Area Outlook for Thurday through Saturday: Partly cloudy most of the peroid with a chance of rain Friday. Highs will range from the 60s to the 70s, lows from the mid 50s to the mid 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the peroid are a high of 80 and a low of 59.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain will fall from the Pacific northwest into the northern and central Rockies and Montana. Showers and thundershowers are likely from the central Great Lakes to the lower Mississippi Valley and eastward to the south and middle Atlantic Coast States. There is also a chance for isolated showers in parts of the Plains and middle Mississippi Valley. Skies will be mostly sunny from the southern half of California across the southern Rockies into westen portions of the central and southern Plains, and from the lower Great Lakes into the northern Atlantic Coast states. Temperatures will be mild to warm from the southern plateau region across the southern half of the Plains to the Atlantic coast. Much of the remainder of the nation can expect cool conditions.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 44 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quaulty. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unheatly and individuals very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urced to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
