Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: Fair. Monday, with a chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be in the mid 70s Monday and the low 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows will be in the 60 through the period. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 81 and a low of 63.

West Virginia: Today - Cloudy, high in the 70s, low in the 50s. There will be a chance of rain today with partial clearing tonight. Sunday - Partly cloudy, high in the mid 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thunderstorms will fall from Texas along the Atlantic Coast states, east of the Apalachians, from Florida west across Texas and then northward touching the southern portions of the southern Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley and the southern sections of the lower and upper Ohio Valley. Warm temperatures will be found across the Pacific northwest, the southwest states, west and southern Texas, along the Gulf Coast and from the southeast states into the middle Atlantic Coast states. Mild to cool temperatures will be found elsewhere.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 120 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 to 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River Stage at Little Falls should fall to 3.8 feet today.
