Extended Area Outlook for Tuesday through Thursday: Fair through the period. Highs will range from the mid 70s to the low 80s Tuesday climbing to the 80s on Thursday. Lows will range from the mid 50s to the low 60s through the period. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 80 and a low of 60.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain and thunder showers will fall from western Texas into the middle and lower Mississippi Valley regions and then along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana across Florida. Cool temperatures will cover the north portion of the southern Plains most of the central Plains as well as the north portions of the central Rockies and central plateau regions. The rest of the region will have mild to warm readings. Mostly cloudy skies will cover portions of the middle Atlantic states, the middle Mississippi Valley, the lower portion of the lower Mississippi Valley must of Florida and the Gulf Coast except for the extreme western sections.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. period was 44 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index valves between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality.
