The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thunder storms will be scatterd across the southern Plains, the middle and lower Mississippi Valley regions, the lower Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley and the South Atlantic Coast states. Showers will also be scattered along the Canadian border from Montana across the northern portion of the Great Lakes. Temperatures will be cooler in the Pacific Northwest. The rest of the nation will have near normal temperatures. Mostly sunny skies will prevail outside of the precipitation area.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 63 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity.
