The National Weather Forecast for today - Occasional showers will cover Montana and widely scattered showers and thundershowers will be seen from southeastern Oregon through Idaho and Wyoming. There will be a chance of showers and thundershowers in the Dakotas and Nebraska. Thundershowers and showers will also be scattered from Texas, across the Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes region and eastward to the Atlantic Coast reaching from Florida to southern New England. Cool temperatures will continue cover the Rockies across Nebraska, the northern Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. Warm weather will remain over California, Arizona the south and mid Atlantic Coast states, Maine, extreme northern New York and extreme south Texas. The rest of the nation will have mild temperatures.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 100 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
