Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday - Fair Friday and Saturday but becoming cloudy on Sunday. Highs will average in the 80s to near 90, lows in the 60s. Normal Washington Temperatures are a high of 85 and a low of 65.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Fair weather with visibility of 5 miles or more. Winds will be from the northwest at 15 to 25 knots diminishing to 8 to 15 knots by nightfall. Waves will average 2 to 4 feet.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today - Sunny and breezy, high in the 70s. Thursday - Sunny and pleasant, high again in the 70s. Water temperatures will range from near 60 in the north to near 70 in the south.

West Virginia: Today - Mostly sunny and cool, highs from the low 60s to low 70s, lows in the 40s, with 30 degree readings in the mountains. Thursday - Sunny and warmer, high in the 70s.

The national weather forecast for today - Showers will be scattered over northern New England, the southern Plains and from the upper Missouri Valley across Washington and Oregon. Showers and occasional thunder-showers will remain over southern Florida. Temperatures will be warm or hot over much of the Plains and the Mississippi Vally, the southern two thirds of the Rockies, the interior Southwest and the Gulf Coast. Cool temperatures will remain over the eastern end of the Great Basin through the northern New England as well as from the Great Basin through the northern Rockies. Temperatures elsewhere over the nation will be seasonably mild.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 25 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrisct their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River Stage at Little Falls should remain between 3.5 and 3.6 feet today.
