Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today - Partly cloudy with highs in the 70s in the north, to the 80s in the south. Sunday - Sunny, high in the 80s. Water temperatures will be in the 60s for the New Jersey beaches and 60 to 70 elsewhere.

Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: There will be a chance of showers or thunderstorms Monday and in the mountains again on Wednesday. Otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm through the period. Highs will be in range from the mid 80s to the low 90s, and lows mostly in the 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 86 and a low of 66.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, highs 80 to 90, lows from the mids 50s to the mid 60s. There will be a chance of afternoon showers and thundershowers today and Sunday, except in the panhandle. Sunday - Partly cloudy, high near 90.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Scattered showers and thunderstorms will fall from northern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas across the middle Mississippi and Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes region. There is a chance of widely scattered showers from northeastern New York across northern portions of northern New England and of widely scattered thundershowers in Mississippi. Elsewhere, most skies will be fair or sunny. It will not be cool over the northern halves of the Rockies and the intermountain region, cooler over the northern Plains and not as warm over the Central Plains. Mild temperatures will continue over New England while warm weather will remain over the rest of the nation. The southwest deserts and southeastern New Mexico will still be hot.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 90 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 50 and 99 indicate unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
