Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Virginia to North Carolina: Today - Cloudy, warm and humid with a chance of thunderstorms, high in the low to mid 80s. Friday - Sunny, high in the 80s. Water temperatures will range from the mid 60s to low 70s.

West Virginia: Today - Mostly sunny, highs from the mid 70s to low 80s, lows in the 40s and 50s. Friday - Continued mostly sunny, high near 80.

The Nation Yesterday: Most of the western U.S. had plenty of sunshine. Temperatures were in the 80s and across the Southwest into the 100s. Widely scattered thundershowers continued across the South with the most activity noted over Florida. Temperatures were in the upper 80s to low 90s. The Northeast continued warm to mild with temperatures mostly in the 70s and 80s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Widely scattered thundershowers will develop through Montana, the Missouri Valley and over much of the South except Texas and western Louisiana. Thundershowers will cover much of Florida while showers will continue across upper New England. Except for coastal Washington the western half of the country will be sunny. Temperature across the nation will be mild to warm, in the seventies over New England and the Great Lakes region and in the 80s across the South and the West. The Southwest from west Texas to southern California will peak the 100s again.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 95 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 50 and 99 indicate unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River Stage at Little Falls should remain near 3.3 feet today.
