Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be southerly at 10 to 15 mph. Waves in unprotected waters will be one foot.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today and Monday will be sunny and warm, high near 80. Water temperatures will be in low 60s in the north and low 70s in the south.

Extended Area Outlook for Tuesday and Thursday: it will be warm and humid through the period, with a chance of thunderstorms late Wednesday or Thursday. Highs will be around 90, and lows in the mid 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 87 and a low of 67.

The National Weather Forceast for today - Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered from the upper Mississippi Valley through the western Great Lakes region and over the Ohio and Tennessee Valley. Thundershowers will be widely scattered over the central Plains and the Gulf Coast states, except for numerous activity over Florida. A few showers or thundershowers will be seen in the northern intermountain area. The remainder of the nation will have mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be hot over most of the southern half of the nation and in the central midwest. It will be mild over the northwestern states, and generally warm in the northeast.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 12 to 1 p.m. period was 41 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will deteriorate.
