Henry M. Broadhurst, 73, president and owner of the Community Paint and Hardware store in Bethesda, died of cancer Saturday at his home at the Rossmoor Leisure World in Silver Spring.
Mr. Broadhurst was born in Browningsville, Md., graduated from Rocksville High School in 1923 and spent his entire life in Montgomery County.
He began working in the hardware business after high school in a store where Community Paint and Hardware now is located. He took over the business and remained active in it until last September until illness forced him to curtail his activities.
Mr. Broadhurst was a former president of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club. He also had been a member of the board of directors of the Bethesda United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Esther S., of the home in Rossmoor; a son, Ronald H., of Rocksville, a daughter, Lois Laborde, of Kensington, four brothers, Roscoe and Ralph, of Bethesda, Harold, of New Braunfels, Texas, and Alfred, of Potomac; a sister, Vivian Bogley, also of Bethesda, and four grandchildren.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8300 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, 20014, or the Rossmoor Leisure World Interfaith Chapel, 3701 Rossmoor Blvd., Siver Spring , 20906.
