The National Weather Forecast for today - Thundershowers will extend from Florida across the eastern Gulf Coast. Showers will be scattered from Minnesota into eastern Montana. Temperatures will be mild for much of New England and across the Atlantic Coast through Virginia. It will also be mild from the upper Missouri Valley through the northern half of the Rockies across the Great Basin and northern Intermountain Region. Temperatures will be hot over inland portions of the eastern Gulf States and from the Upper Great Lakes across the upper Mississippi Valley through the lower Missouri Valley, Kansas and Oklahoma. Temperatures, over the remaining regions of the nation, will be seasonably warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 1 p.m. period was 22 for the pollutant protochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 25 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should rise to between 6 and 7 feet today. Stages above 5 feet are considered hazardous for recreational purposes.
