Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be southerly changing to westerly by evening, 10 to 15 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be two feet.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today - variable cloudiness, warm and humid, high in low 80s. There will be a chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Sunday - Partly cloudy, warm and humid, high in mid 80s. Water temperatures will be in upper 60s in the north and mid 70s in the south.

Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: Chance of showers or thunderstorms near the coast on Monday, otherwise partly cloudy and quite warm through the period. Highs will average in the 80s and lows in the 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 89 and low at 69.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy and humid through Sunday with afternoon and evening showers. Highs will be in the 80s and lows in the 60s today and Sunday.

The Nation Yesterday: Showers and thunderstorms continued from eastern Oklahoma through the Ohio Valley to the middle Atlantic Coast states. A flash flood watch was issued for southeastern Kentucky in anticipation of possible heavy rains in the area. Thundershower activity also persisted along the Gulf of Mexico coast and across Florida, in the upper Mississippi Valley, and in eastern Nebraska. Widely scattered showers were reported in the southern Nevada area. Skies were mostly sunny across large portions of an area from California and parts of the Pacific northwest to the lower and middle Mississippi Valley.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers or thundershowers are likely from the Great Lakes to the lower Mississppi Valley and eastward to the Atlantic. There is also a chance for showers or thundershowers in parts of southwestern states, from Washington state into Montana, and in east Texas. Skies will be sunny to mostly sunny over much of the remainder of the country. Temperatures will continue warm to hot throughout most of the nation.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 34 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
