John T. Parran Sr., 83, a banker in Indian Head for many years, died Saturday at Physicians Memorial Hospital, in LaPlata. He had been suffering from emphysema.
Mr. Parran was born in Prince Frederick, Md., and grew up there. He moved to Indian Head after World War I service in the Army and became cashier in the Indian Head branch of the Eastern Shore Trust Co. The bank later was taken over by the Maryland National Bank. Mr. Parran was branch vice president at the time of his retirement in the mid-1960s.
He then joined his son in the insurance and real estate business in Indian Head.He remained active in it until the time of his death.
Mr. Parran was a former town commissioner of Indian Head and a member of the American Legion.
His wife, the former Sarah Elliott, died in 1951.
Survivors include his son, John T. Jr., of Indian Head; a brother, Julius, of Lusby, Md., and three sisters Ruth Gates, of Kingston, N.Y., Helen Hance, of Prince Frederick, Md., and Ella Mae Woodward, of Atlanta, Ga.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions in Mr. Parran's name to the Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department, Indian Head, Md.
