Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today and Friday - Mostly sunny and warm, highs from the upper 70s to low 80s. Water temperatures will range from the upper 60s in New Jersey to the upper 70s in North Carolina.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Fair. Visibility will be 3 to 5 miles except less than 1 mile in morning fog. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 knots.

West Virginia: Today and Friday - Hot, hazy and humid, high near 90, low in the 60s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thundershowers are likely over the northern tier of states from central Montana to Maine and as far south as central Missouri. Thunder showers will be scattered over the Gulf Coast from western Louisiana to the coast of Georgia. Temperatures will continue to be over 100 degrees in the southern Plains and around 110 degrees in the Desert Southwest. Mild weather will continue over the northern Rockies and the northern Plains. Skies will be fair to partly cloudy for a large portion of the nation.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 4 p.m. period was 65 for the pollutant, photchemical oxidants. Index values between 50 and 99 indicate unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The air pollution alert will continue until 4 p.m.
