Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: Fair and pleasant Tuesday but cloudy with a chance of rain Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be the upper 70s to mid 80s and lows in mid 60s to low 70s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 88 and a low of 60.

West Virginia: Today - Mostly sunny, high in upper 70s to mid 80s, low in upper 50s to mid 60s. Sunday - Cloudy with a chance of rain, high in mid 80s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and occasional thundershowers will be scattered along the Gulf Coast through the southern Atlantic coast. Showers and thundershowers will extend from the upper Mississippi Valley across the Great Lakes and northern portions of the Ohio Valley. Thundershowers will be widely scattered through the central Rockies as well as in the northern Arizona. Temperatures will be mild over the Great Lakes, much of New England and portions of the northern Atlantic coast. Hot temperatures will also be from eastern Colorado across much of Kansas and Oklahoma into north Texas. Temperatures will be unreasonably hot from the upper Missouri Valley across northern portions of the Great Basin to the Oregon and northern California coast. Temperatures over the remainder of the nation will be generally warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 48 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the Index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lungs, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast to today indicates that the air quality will improve.
