Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today and Friday will be variable cloudiness warm and humid with a chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Highs in the mid to upper 80s. Water temperatures will be in the low 70s to the north and near 80 in the south.

Extended Area Outlook for Saturday through Monday: Partly cloudy warm and humid with a chance of thunderstorms. Highs will average from the mid 80s to the low 90s, lows from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 87 and a low of 68.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thunderstorms will gain be most numbers over the southern Atlantic Coast. Activity will also reach into the Ohio Valley. Other widely scattered thundershowers will be seen over the central and southern Rocky Mountain region and the southern Plateau area. Sunny skies will dominate most of the northern half of the country. Hot weather will continue from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast, although it will be a few degrees cooler in the interior valleys of northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures will be seasonably warm over the eastern two thirds of the nation.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 25 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
