Extended Area Forecast for Wednesday through Friday - Partly cloudy, warm and humid through the period with only isolated thunderstorms, highs from the 80s to low 90s, lows in the mid 60s to mid 70s. Normal Washington temperatures are a high of 87 and a low of 68.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Chance of an afternoon or early evening thunderstorm. Visibility will be 5 miles or more diminishing to less than 1 mile in showers. Winds will be southerly at 5 to 10 knots. Waves will average near 1 foot.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thundershowers will extend from the southern half of the Atlantic Coast across the eastern Gulf states and the Gulf Coast. Showers will be scattered from the northern Plains through the upper Missouri Valley and the central Rockies. Temperatures will be hot over the Great Lakes and upper half of the Mississippi Valley into Kansas and Oklahoma. Temperatures will be unseasonably cool over northwestern Montana and mild from the interior portions of the Pacific Coastal states across much of the Plateau Region, the northern two thirds of the Rockies and the upper Missouri Valley. Elsewhere temperatures will be generally warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 1 p.m. period was 60 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 50 and 100 indicates unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River Stage at Little Falls should stay near 4.3 feet today.
