Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Partly cloudy with a chance of a thundershowers. Visibility will be 3 to 5 miles diminishing to less than 1 mile in rain. Winds will be southerly at 5 to 10 knots. Waves will average near 2 feet.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today and Wednesday - Partly cloudy with a chance of an afternoon or evening thunderstorm, highs in the low to mid 80s. Water temperatures will range from the 70s to near 80.

West Virginia: Today and Wednesday. Variable cloudiness and humid with a chance of mainly afternoon or evening thunderstorms highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s, lows in the 60s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rainshowers and occasional thundershowers will reach from the upper Great Lakes across the northern half of the Mississippi Valley into eastern portions of the central Plains. Showers and thundershowers will also extend from the central Atlantic Coastal states across the Tennessee Valley and the central Gulf states. Showers will reach from northern Montana across the coast of Washington. Temperatures will be hot through the Great Lakes, across western and northern New England. Temperatures will be mild from western portions of the Plains through much of the intermountain Region and the Pacific Northwest. Elsewhere temperatures will remain seasonably warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 105 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
