Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be variable at 15 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be less than one foot.

Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: Partly cloudy Monday and Tuesday with a chance of showers on Wednesday. Highs will average around 80 to mid 80s, lows will be from the 60s to the low 70s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 85 and low 67.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today - Sunny with highs in the under 80s. Sunday - partly cloudy with a chance of showers or thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 80s. Water temperatures will be in the low 70s in the north and around 80 in the south.

West Virginia: Today - Partly, cloudy with a chance of afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 80s to near 90 and lows in the 60s. Sunday - Partly cloudy, high near 90.

The Nation Yesterday: Thundershowers were weakening through the Louisville, Ky. area. Heavy rains were filling streams and small rivers through much of northern Kentucky. Some highways were under water. The Pacific northwest was a little drier but still quite cool. Temperatures in the 60s were common throughout the northwestern corner of the nation. The west coast was sunny and warm. The eastern half of the nation remained very warm and humid. Partly cloudy skies prevailed, with widely scattered thundershowers from southern Louisiana across the South. There was no sign of relief for the southern Plains. With almost cloudless skies, northern Texas and Oklahoma would soon be in the 100s with the desert southwest not far behind.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Thundershowers will be scattered through the lower Great Lakes the Ohio Valley, into Kentucky and Tennessee. Widely scattered thundershowers will continue through the eastern Gulf Coast and Florida. Showers will also continue through the Pacific northwest including Montana. The eastern half of the nation will be warm and humid with partly cloudy skies. The Plains, the Rockies, and the west coast will be sunny. The northern Plains as far south as Kansas will be slightly cooler, near 80 in Kansas, as cool air spread southward. [LINES ILLEGIBLE] southwest will also be hot.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 110 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
