Atlantic Ocean Beaches of Virginia and North Carolina: Today and Friday - Mostly sunny and warm, high in the mid to upper 80s. Water temperatures will be in the upper 70s to near 80.

West Virginia: Today and Friday - Sunny, high in the 80s, low in the mid 50s to mid 60s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Scattered thunderstorms and showers will continue over much of the upper Great Lakes region and spread across most of the north Atlantic Coast states. Thunderstorms will also be scattered over the Texas coastal plains, Florida and southern portions of the remaining Gulf Coast states. Isolated thundershowers will dampen the Rockies and the Great Plains. Scattered showers will continue over the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Northwest, the northern half of the Intermountain Region and northern California will be mild, while hot weather will continue over the south and central Plains into the mid and upper Mississippi Valley and parts of the Great Lakes region. The rest of the nation will be seasonably warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 120 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants.
