Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Fair with visibility of 5 miles or more. Winds will become southerly at up to 10 knots. Waves will average near 1 foot.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Widely scattered showers and thundershowers will extend from California through the Pacific Northwest into Montana and across the International Region and the southern Rockies. They will also dot northern Michigan and northern Maine. Skies will be sunny between the Rockies and the Appalachians. It will be mild over much of the nation west of the Rockies, but hot over Oklahoma and across the northern and central Great Plains eastward to the Mississippi River. Elsewhere seasonably warm temperatures will prevail.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 1 p.m. period was 36 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain fair.
