Retired Army Lt. Col. Joseph S. Parren, 60, director of the National Automobile Dealers Association retirement trust fund, died Tuesday at Fairfax Hospital following a heart attack.
Col. Parren entered the Army as a private in 1943. He served with the provost marshal's headquarters in Washington and Europe and as commanding officer of the 45th military police detachment at Fort Myer. When he retired from Military service in 1967, he was a staff officer with the U.S. Army Material Command here.
He then joined the National Automobile Dealers Association as a field representative for the retirement trust program. He was named director in 1969.
Col. Parren was born in Milton, N.Y., and graduated from Eastman College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He earned a law degree from the University of Georgia.
His military decorations included the Legion of Merit.
Col. Parren was a member of the Fort Myer Officers Club. The George Town Club, and the Johns Island Club of Vero Beach, Fla.
Survivors includes his wife, Elizabeth S. of the home in Falls Church; a daughter, Annette Maria Almestica, of Poughkeepsie; a son, Guiseppi S. Perna, of New York City, and one grandchild.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of contributions to the National Automobile Dealers Association Charitable Foundation in McLean.
