Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be southerly at 15 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be two feet.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from New Jersey to North Carolina: Today and Saturday - Variable cloudiness with a chance of showers developing, high in mid 70s to near 80. Fair weather will prevail in the southern beaches with temperatures near 80. Water temperatures will be in the mids 70s in the north and low 80s in the south.

Extended Area Outlook for Sunday through Thursday: Partly cloudy and cool through the period. Highs will mainly be in the low to mid 70s and lows in the mid to upper 50s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 80 and a low of 61.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thundershowers will extend along the Atlantic Coast from New England through the Virginias, across the upper Ohio Valley and lower Great Lakes. Showers and thundershowers will also reach from the lower Mississippi Valley across the Tennessee Valley and Gulf State to the Atlantic Coast from Florida through South Carolina. Showers will also be scattered over Arizona. Temperatures will be warm over the southern Atlantic Coast and eastern Gulf States as well as the southern half of the Plains and the extreme southwest. Cool temperatures will reach from the western end of the Great Lakes across the upper Missouri Valley, the northern Rockies, the northern Plateau and Great Basin. Temperatures elsewhere over the nation will be seasonably mild.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 23 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remains at 3.1 feet today.
